Our vacancy
In order to strengthen and support our Water Resources & Sanitary Engineering Department team we are looking for a committed and seasoned engineer (f/m/d), preferably with experience in donor-financed international development cooperation. The projects to work on are medium to large scale Water Supply, Wastewater, Storm-water Drainage and Irrigation schemes, covering the full project cycle with studies, design, tendering, supervision and technical assistance in operation and management of systems. In this position, you will be responsible for project implementation, technical expert input and project acquisition. You come to work within an existing multicultural team, where the German language is not a must, and will undertake assignments in current and future projects abroad.
 
Main Duties in this Position
 
As a technical expert for assignments abroad:
-Technical and financial project responsibility
-Technical Expert, (Deputy) Team leader or team member
-Fulfilment of technical tasks according to project specifications or terms of reference
-Responsible for report writing and coordination of report writing
-Coordination with project partners, clients, development banks and local stakeholders
-Responsibility for correct and timely invoicing of project costs
Acquisition:
-Contact with clients (ministries / development banks etc.) and partners and coordination of project approaches at an early stage
-Participation in the preparation of pre-qualifications / expressions of interest and independent follow-up, including liaison with potential national partner companies and potential expert candidates for international and national assignments
-Responsibility for the preparation, processing and / or coordination of technical and financial proposals with partner companies and internal service departments, including staff organization
 
Project implementation:
-Coordination, monitoring and evaluation of activities within the project team
-Quality assurance and control at the GIC office and, if required, on site (technical backstopping and control missions)
-Proactive coordination of project progress and milestones with clients and project partners
-Control of schedules (assistance in meeting deadlines) during reporting and editing of reports
-Monitoring of compliance with invoicing deadlines
-Financial follow-up of the projects in coordination with the Controlling department
-Preparation of project agenda and new contracts
 
Required expertise / profile
-Full academic qualification (MSc. or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Process Engineering or similar
-At least 5 years of proven work experience in international development projects, with a focus on water related topics (water supply, wastewater, storm water, drainage, irrigation, etc.)
-Fluent language skills (oral and written) in English and/or French and/or Spanish
-Distinct communication skills as well as report writing skills
-Ability to work effectively in teams with a “hands-on” mentality
-Mobility (also on short-notice) and willingness to work on project assignments abroad
-Ability to work under time pressure
